Scentists from the University of Southern Denmark explained that when people lose weight, new fat cells form with less inflammatory activity. These healthier cells cause less damage to the body. This means people can see health benefits even if they do not lose all excess fat.

For this study, researchers analyzed samples from patients who underwent gastric bypass surgery. These individuals lost between 20% and 45% of their body weight over two years. The changes in their bodies were significant.
The study found a clear drop in harmful immune cells. Many immune cell levels became similar to those seen in lean individuals. This shift showed a healthier immune balance.
The research, published in Nature Metabolism, also showed better blood circulation. Scientists observed fewer genetic errors, which may lower the risk of cancer.
Co-author Professor Susanne Mandrup said the findings prove that even modest weight loss supports better health. After weight loss, fat tissue begins to resemble that of lean people. This shows that the body does not permanently remember obesity as once believed.
