Vote on no-confidence motion against AJK PM today

Vote on no-confidence motion against AJK PM will take place today in Muzaffarabad. The assembly will vote on the no-confidence move against Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq.

The PPP claims that more than 35 members support Faisal Rathore for the prime minister’s office. If the motion succeeds, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore will become the 16th Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and the 4th PM of the current assembly.

The assembly will meet today at 3 pm for the vote. The motion needs a simple majority of 27 votes to pass.

Sources say the PPP already has the required simple majority. PML-N will also vote for the PPP candidate in the no-confidence move against Anwar-ul-Haq.

PML-N announced that it will support the motion but will not join the government. According to Shah Ghulam Qadir, PML-N will play the role of a strong opposition in the AJK Assembly.

Five members — Chaudhry Qasim Majeed, Sardar Javed Ayub, Malik Zafar Iqbal, Ali Shan Soni, and Muhammad Rafiq Nayyar — submitted the no-confidence motion on November 14.

Anwar-ul-Haq earlier received a message asking him to resign, but he refused. After this, the PPP submitted the no-confidence motion.

President Asif Ali Zardari approved the move last month to bring the no-confidence motion against the AJK Prime Minister.

The AJK Assembly has 53 members. A candidate needs 27 votes to become Prime Minister. On October 26, the PPP held a dinner in Islamabad attended by 27 lawmakers.

On the same day, 10 ministers from the PTI forward bloc joined the PPP after meeting Faryal Talpur. This gave PPP a simple majority in the house.

After this dinner, Anwar-ul-Haq again received the message to resign or face the no-confidence motion.

At the moment, the Anwar-ul-Haq group has only 7 members left. PTI has 5 members, while the Muslim Conference and JKPP have one seat each.

In the end, today’s vote on no-confidence motion against AJK PM will decide the next political setup in Azad Kashmir.
