US Arms Sale to Taiwan: Largest $11 Billion Weapons Package
US arms sale to Taiwan marks a major development in regional security. The United States announced the largest-ever weapons package for Taiwan, worth USD 11 billion.
The announcement came from Washington on Wednesday. According to Reuters, the Trump administration approved an arms sale of USD 11.1 billion. This package is the biggest US weapons deal for Taiwan so far. It is also the second such announcement under President Donald Trump’s current administration.
Package Confirmed by Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that the package includes eight types of weapons and military equipment. These include HIMARS rocket systems, howitzer artillery, Javelin anti-tank missiles, Altius loitering munition drones, and other key defense components.
The ministry stated that the United States continues to support Taiwan’s defense readiness. It helps Taiwan build strong defensive power quickly. It also promotes an asymmetric warfare strategy. Officials believe this approach supports peace and stability in the region.
The deal now requires approval from the US Congress. Taiwan enjoys support from both major US political parties. The Pentagon said in a separate statement that the agreement aligns with US national, economic, and security interests. It will also help modernize Taiwan’s armed forces.
Under US guidance, Taiwan is preparing its military for asymmetric warfare. This strategy focuses on advanced, lower-cost, and highly mobile weapons. Drones play a key role in this defense model.

Taiwan’s Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo thanked the United States for the arms sale. She said Taiwan will continue defense reforms. She added that the country will strengthen national defense and protect its sovereignty.
Last month, Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te announced an additional USD 40 billion defense budget for 2026 to 2033. He stated clearly that Taiwan will not compromise on national security.
