Saira Imran The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced significant changes to its visa and residency system. The government introduced new visit visa categories and updated entry permit rules to attract global talent, business professionals, and tourists. Officials said the move is part of UAE’s strategy to strengthen its role as a global hub for technology, artificial intelligence (AI), entertainment, and tourism.
Four New Visit Visa Categories
According to Gulf News reports, UAE authorities launched four new types of visit visas:
1. Visa for Artificial Intelligence Experts
AI professionals can now apply for single or multiple-entry visas. To qualify, applicants need sponsorship from a recognized technology institution.
2. Tourist Visit Visa
Foreigners visiting UAE for leisure can obtain this visa for a temporary stay.
3. Event Visit Visa
This category is for foreigners attending festivals, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, or cultural, sports, and religious events. A government or private institution must sponsor the visa, and organizers must provide event details.
4. Tourism by Sea Visa
Tourists arriving on cruise ships or luxury yachts can receive a multiple-entry visa if their travel includes UAE stopovers. Licensed tourism companies will serve as sponsors.
Humanitarian Residency Permit
UAE also announced a one-year humanitarian residency permit for citizens from countries affected by wars, disasters, or unrest. Applicants will not need a sponsor. However, if the beneficiary leaves UAE, the permit will be canceled automatically.

Residency for Widows and Divorced Women
The new policy grants widows and divorced foreign women a one-year residency permit.
- If the late husband or ex-husband was Emirati, women without children can apply within six months.
- If the husband was foreign, widows or divorced women with children can apply within six months, provided they show proof of financial stability and housing.
Sponsorship for Relatives and Friends
UAE residents can now sponsor relatives and friends, subject to income requirements:
- AED 4,000 monthly income for immediate family.
- AED 8,000 monthly income for second or third-degree relatives.
- AED 15,000 monthly income for sponsoring friends.

Business Exploration Visa
Applicants must demonstrate financial capacity or proof of business activity in their home country or through a company. This visa encourages entrepreneurs to explore business opportunities in UAE.
Truck Driver Visa
Truck drivers can apply for single or multiple-entry visas. Sponsorship must come from a licensed freight or transport company. Health insurance and financial guarantees are mandatory.

These changes highlight UAE’s focus on expanding its economy, boosting tourism, and attracting skilled professionals.
