Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner made a strong start at the US Open with dominant wins in their opening matches. Swiatek, fresh from her Cincinnati victory, defeated Colombia’s Emiliana Arango 6-1, 6-2 in just an hour. She admitted New York’s loud atmosphere can be tough but said she tries to stay focused and “in her bubble.”
Men’s defending champion Jannik Sinner also impressed, beating Czech player Vit Kopriva 6-1, 6-1, 6-2. The Italian received big support from the crowd and will now face Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in the second round. The quick wins allowed organisers to move other matches, with Czech Linda Noskova also advancing after beating Dalma Galfi.
Other stars also lit up the tournament. Coco Gauff battled hard to edge past Ajla Tomljanovic in three sets, while Naomi Osaka returned with style, winning in a sparkling red outfit. Alexander Zverev, Amanda Anisimova, and several top seeds also advanced, setting the stage for more exciting clashes in New York.
