Revolutionary Diabetes Drug Discovered by US Scientists

A revolutionary diabetes drug discovered by scientists at New York University Langone Health is offering new hope for millions of patients worldwide.

Researchers reported that the new drug reduces the severe effects of diabetes. The discovery may change future treatment options.

The research team tested the drug on mice. They named the drug RAGE406R. The drug reduced inflammation and limited cell damage. It also improved recovery in the heart and kidneys.

The study showed that the drug helped wounds heal faster. Slow wound healing remains a major problem for people with diabetes.

Experts explained that the drug works differently from existing diabetes medicines. It does not lower blood sugar levels. Instead, it protects cells from internal damage.

The drug blocks the interaction between two harmful proteins, RAGE and DIAPH1. This action reduces the damage caused by advanced glycation end products.

Advanced glycation end products form when sugar binds with proteins or fats. This process increases in diabetes. When these products attach to the RAGE protein, they trigger inflammation and cell damage.

Researchers applied the drug to the skin of mice. The wounds healed faster, confirming its potential for treating chronic diabetic wounds.

The journal Cell Chemical Biology published the study. Researchers called it an important early breakthrough. If human trials succeed, the revolutionary diabetes drug discovered could benefit both type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients.
