PTA Warning on Inactive Mobile SIMs Worries Users

PTA warning on inactive mobile SIMs has raised concern among mobile users across Pakistan. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority issued an alert about unused SIM cards.

PTA stated that telecom operators can block any SIM that remains unused for six continuous months. Operators will check activity records before taking action.

According to PTA, if a SIM shows no call, SMS, or internet usage for 180 days, operators will treat it as inactive. They may then deactivate the number.

Authorities also confirmed that companies can reissue these blocked numbers to new users. This step may cause permanent loss of the number for the previous owner.

PTA clarified an important legal point. Once operators assign a number to a new user, the previous user no longer holds any legal claim or ownership rights over that number.

Officials advised users who cannot use their SIM temporarily to contact their telecom operator. Users can send a written request or email to ask the company to reserve the number for a specific period.
