The federal government also raised the levy on fuel last month. It increased the levy on petrol by Rs 4.65 per liter. New rate reached Rs 84.27 per liter. The levy on high-speed diesel also went up by 80 paisa per liter. The new diesel levy reached Rs 76.21 per liter.
Government made a separate collection under the carbon levy. It collected Rs 25.48 billion under this head during the first half of the current fiscal year.
Experts say this sharp rise in petroleum levy collection shows the government’s strong focus on increasing revenue through fuel taxes.
