Pakistan Space Mission Reaches Key Human Flight Milestone

Pakistan Space Mission achieves a major breakthrough as two candidates move into the final stage of astronaut selection. Authorities confirmed this development on February 9, 2026.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) completed the candidate selection phase under the national human spaceflight program. Officials reviewed several applicants and selected two individuals after initial screening. Experts call this step a historic move in Pakistan’s space journey.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said trainers will now give both candidates special training for two months. Instructors will teach them how to operate in a zero-gravity environment. They will also learn mission operations and emergency response procedures through practical exercises.

After training ends, officials will make the final selection in October or November this year. One candidate will represent Pakistan at China’s space station. This mission will mark Pakistan’s direct participation in a human spaceflight mission.

This progress comes under the space cooperation agreement that Pakistan and China signed in February 2025. The agreement aims to expand Pakistan’s capacity in scientific research and space technology.

Under this deal, China chose Pakistan as the first foreign partner to join its astronaut program. Officials say this partnership shows growing scientific and technical cooperation between the two countries. It also opens new opportunities for Pakistani youth in space science and advanced technology.

This achievement highlights how the Pakistan Space Mission continues to move forward and positions the country for a stronger role in global space exploration.
