Pakistan India T20 World Cup Match Boycott Dispute

Pakistan India T20 World Cup match boycott issue has created fresh tension before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Sri Lanka Cricket has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to review its decision to boycott the match against India. Foreign media reports say the Sri Lankan board sent a formal letter to PCB about this matter.

The high-profile Pakistan vs India match is scheduled for 15 February in Colombo. Sri Lanka warned that canceling this game could cause heavy financial loss to the host country.

Officials said this match always attracts huge fan interest. It also brings strong economic benefits. If the match does not take place, ticket sales may drop. Broadcasters may lose revenue. Tourism activities may also suffer.

The Sri Lankan board said the absence of any team would have long-term effects. It would not only cause direct financial loss but also reduce the number of foreign fans and tourists visiting the country.

The board linked the issue to the broader interest of international cricket. It requested Pakistan to reconsider the decision in light of long-standing relations between the two cricket boards and the current sensitive situation.

This development came after the Government of Pakistan stopped the national team from playing against India in the T20 World Cup. This decision created uncertainty around the biggest match of the event.

Earlier, Indian media reported that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering behind-the-scenes contacts. The goal is to convince Pakistan to review its position.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will begin on 7 February in India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan will play all its group matches in Colombo. The Pakistan India T20 World Cup match boycott remains a major concern for organizers and fans.
