Pakistan Energy Saving Measures After Middle East War Crisis

Pakistan introduced Pakistan energy saving measures after global oil prices increased sharply due to the war in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government must take serious steps to save fuel and protect the national economy.

The government will reduce fuel supply to government departments by 50% for the next two months. However, ambulances and public buses will not face this cut.

Offices to Open Only Four Days a Week

The government announced that offices will open only four days a week.

One extra weekly holiday will help reduce fuel use. However, this rule will not apply to banks.

At the same time, 50% of employees will work from home in both public and private sectors. Essential services will continue normal operations.

Industries and agriculture sectors will not follow the work-from-home rule.

Two Weeks Holidays for Schools

The government also decided to close all educational institutions for two weeks starting at the end of the current week.

During this time, schools will start online classes so students can continue their studies.

Government Spending Cuts Announced

The prime minister announced strict financial discipline across government departments.

Key decisions include:

• Cabinet members and ministers will not take salaries for two months.

• Members of parliament salaries will reduce by 25%.

• Officers in grade 20 and above earning over Rs300,000 will contribute two days of salary for public relief.

• 60% of government vehicles will stop operating for two months to save fuel.

• Government departments must reduce non-salary expenses by 20%.

The government also banned the purchase of vehicles, furniture, and air conditioners for public departments.

Ban on Official Dinners and Foreign Visits

The government imposed a complete ban on official dinners and iftar parties.

Officials must also stop unnecessary foreign trips. Only visits essential for national interest will continue.

The government will encourage online meetings and teleconferences to reduce travel and fuel use.

Rising Oil Prices Create Economic Pressure

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said global oil prices recently increased from $60 per barrel to more than $100 per barrel.

He explained that Pakistan relies heavily on oil and gas supplies from Gulf countries. Therefore, international conflicts directly affect Pakistan’s economy.

He said the government had to increase petrol prices recently. However, it tried to keep the increase lower to reduce the burden on citizens.

Call for National Unity

The prime minister urged wealthy citizens to support the country during difficult times. He said Pakistan faced serious challenges but could overcome them with unity and cooperation.

He warned profiteers and hoarders not to exploit the situation. Authorities will take strict action against illegal price increases in petrol and diesel.
