Mobile Phone Prices in Pakistan May Drop Under New Policy

Mobile phone prices in Pakistan may drop soon after the government announces a new policy to support affordable smartphones. The policy aims to improve access to modern technology across the country.

The Government of Pakistan plans to introduce a mobile phone leasing policy. The move focuses on modernizing the technology sector and making smartphones more affordable for the public.

Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja confirms that the government is working on this policy. She says the plan will help ensure the wide availability of 5G smartphones in the country.

At present, Pakistan has a limited number of 5G handsets. The government now plans to offer modern phones on easy monthly installments. This step will help build a strong user base for the upcoming 5G networks in major cities.

The Ministry of IT has already shared the draft policy with mobile phone operators. Stakeholders are holding consultations to finalize financing methods. Authorities expect a final decision soon.

In addition, the Ministry of IT is reviewing options to reduce taxes on imported mobile phones. The step may further lower prices and increase public convenience. However, the Federal Board of Revenue says local production meets most market demand, so officials continue to review the proposal.

The government expects these measures to improve access to technology and reduce costs. Mobile phone prices in Pakistan may become more affordable if the policy receives final approval.
