Lahore Ranks First Among World’s Most Polluted Cities

Lahore ranks first among world’s most polluted cities, with its air quality reaching a dangerous level. According to the global air quality index, Lahore’s overall AQI hit 563, marking a severe pollution crisis in the city.

Different parts of Lahore recorded alarmingly high AQI levels. Sanda Road reached 941, Cantt 690, Iqbal Town 639, and Burki Road 616. The air in these areas is unsafe for breathing and poses serious health risks.

The Meteorological Department predicted dry weather in most parts of the country. Meanwhile, smog has turned into a major threat in Punjab, especially in Lahore. Authorities have urged citizens to take safety precautions.

To fight the rising smog, the Lahore Waste Management Company launched an anti-smog operation. It deployed 16 mechanical washers and 50 washer rickshaws to clean the roads and control dust.

About 200 sanitation workers are working in the day shift and another 200 at night. They spray water on more than 300 kilometers of roads daily to reduce pollution levels.

Globally, New Delhi in India ranks second with an AQI of 247, while Beijing in China stands third with an AQI of 215.

Smog continues to harm public health and visibility in Lahore. Citizens are advised to wear masks and avoid outdoor activities whenever possible.

Lahore ranks first among world’s most polluted cities again, highlighting the urgent need for stronger environmental action.
