Iran Anti-Government Protests Kill 45, Internet Shut Down

Iran anti-government protests turned violent across the country as public anger over the economic crisis continued to grow. At least 45 people, including security personnel, have died since nationwide protests began on December 28, according to media reports.

Foreign media reported that the protests spread to 27 provinces. Shopkeepers and citizens staged daily demonstrations in different cities. During the latest protests, demonstrators burned tires and blocked major roads in key urban areas.

Iranian media reported that armed groups attacked police during the unrest. Protesters threw stones and opened direct fire at security forces at several locations.

Authorities deployed additional police and security personnel nationwide. Officials took this step to control violent protests and prevent further spread.

Internet Services Shut Down Across Iran

During the protests, authorities shut down internet services across Iran. The shutdown affected the entire country.

Internet monitoring group NetBlocks confirmed the disruption. The group said the exact reason for the shutdown remains unclear. However, Iranian authorities have suspended internet services during protests in the past.

People in Iran have protested for the past 12 days. They raised concerns over rising inflation and a sharp fall in the value of the national currency. These protests have already caused dozens of deaths.

The US President warned Iran during an interview. He said the United States would give a strong and very tough response if protesters were killed during demonstrations.

In a separate statement, Iran’s Chief Justice said authorities would show no leniency toward those spreading unrest. He confirmed that law enforcement would take strict action under the law.

The situation remains tense as Iran anti-government protests continue amid economic pressure and rising public anger.
