India Water as Strategic Weapon Poses Human Risk: US Journal

India water as strategic weapon may create a serious humanitarian risk in South Asia, according to a US journal. The publication strongly supports Pakistan’s position on India’s actions against the Indus Waters Treaty.

The US journal The National Interest reported that water politics in South Asia have taken a new turn after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty. The report said this move will increase regional tensions and create instability.

The journal stated that India’s Dulhasti Stage II project violates the Indus Waters Treaty. It added that India is turning water into a strategic weapon. The report warned that a growing water crisis could become a major humanitarian threat across South Asia.

According to The National Interest, India stopped sharing water-related data, which violates international law. The report noted that the international arbitration court has clearly ruled that India cannot suspend the Indus Waters Treaty on its own.

The journal emphasized that the Indus Waters Treaty guarantees food security in South Asia. It said India has a legal duty to provide water from the western rivers to Pakistan. The report concluded that India’s attempt to weaponize water is unacceptable under international law and global courts.

In the end, The National Interest warned again that India water as strategic weapon threatens regional peace and could lead to a severe humanitarian crisis if left unchecked.
