Heavy Snowfall in Upper Areas Cuts Off Road Links

Heavy snowfall in upper areas has covered Pakistan’s northern regions in white and disrupted daily life. Roads have closed, power outages have occurred, and people have stayed indoors due to extreme cold.

Fresh snowfall hit Neelum Valley again, while Gurez Valley recorded up to five feet of snow. Authorities closed the road leading to Gurez Valley. Many residents remained trapped in their homes as restoration work continued.

Severe snowfall also cut off land routes in Leepa Valley. The weather improved scenic beauty in Kalash, but harsh conditions created serious travel problems.

The Pakistan Army continued helicopter rescue and relief operations. The army airlifted a critically ill woman to Rawalpindi Military Hospital using emergency medical facilities.

Rescue teams also helped citizens stranded due to snow. Authorities reopened the Kotli–Nakyal road for traffic. In Pir Nasura, rescue teams saved several families and provided food and relief supplies.

Weather officials forecast more rain and snowfall across the country starting today. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan may receive rain and snow. Islamabad, Murree, and the Galiyat region also expect snowfall.

Temperatures dropped sharply in upper areas. Leh recorded minus 14 degrees Celsius. Astore, Kalam, and Nathia Gali recorded minus 9. Parachinar and Qalat recorded minus 8, while Gupis recorded minus 7 degrees Celsius.

Authorities advised citizens to remain cautious as heavy snowfall in upper areas continues to affect roads, weather, and daily life.
