Islamabad: The government plans to pass the 27th Constitutional Amendment this month. According to sources, the government is contacting all political parties to build consensus on the amendment. The purpose of the 27th Constitutional Amendment is to increase the powers of the federation.
Sources revealed that the government prepared proposals to amend Article 243, which deals with the command of the armed forces. Under Article 243(4) of the Constitution, the President appoints the heads of the armed forces on the advice of the Prime Minister.
Similarly, Article 160(3A) prevents the government from reducing the provinces’ share in the new NFC Award. However, sources from the Ministry of Law said that an amendment in Article 160(3A) is now necessary to remove this restriction.
According to officials, the main goal of the government is to create a balance between the federation and provinces regarding resource distribution and defense responsibilities.
