Google Introduces Gmail Email Address Change Feature
Google Introduces Gmail email address change feature has become possible as Google announces a major update for its users. The company has eased a long-standing policy that earlier restricted this option.
Google introduced this update on December 28, 2025. The announcement came from California through a web report.
Earlier, Google allowed email changes only for users who used third-party email addresses. The company treated @gmail.com addresses as permanent and unchangeable. Now, this policy is set to change.
Google confirmed that users can change their linked @gmail.com address to a new @gmail.com address. The company did not share full technical details. However, Google stated that all users will get access to this feature.
When users change their Gmail address, the old email will remain active as an alias. Users will continue to receive emails sent to both the old and new addresses.
All saved data will stay safe. Photos, messages, and previous emails will not face any impact.
Users can reuse their old Google account email. However, they cannot create another new @gmail.com account for the next 12 months. During this time, users also cannot delete the new email address.
Users can sign in to Gmail, Maps, YouTube, Google Play, and Google Drive using either the old or new email address.
Experts say this update offers more flexibility to users. They believe this move marks a major shift in Gmail’s strict username rules. The Gmail email address change feature is expected to improve user convenience significantly.
