Food Prices Increase in Pakistan: Yearly Data Released

Food prices increase in Pakistan as the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics released new data on price changes over the past year.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics shared official figures showing how food and utility prices changed over the year.

The data shows that sugar prices rose by 16.32 percent. The average price increased from Rs137.33 per kg to Rs159.74 per kg. In 2025, the highest sugar price reached Rs229 per kg.

Flour prices increased by 22.56 percent in one year. The average price of a 20 kg flour bag rose from Rs 1,794.93 to Rs 2,199.85.

Broiler chicken prices also increased. One year ago, live chicken sold at Rs409.22 per kg. The current average price stands at Rs424.89 per kg.

Beef prices increased by 13.01 percent. Jaggery became 12.46 percent costlier. Banana prices rose by 11.24 percent. Ground red chili prices increased by 10.31 percent. Egg prices went up by 9.71 percent.

Milk powder prices increased by 9.51 percent over the year. Gas charges recorded a sharp rise of 29.85 percent. Firewood prices increased by 11.02 percent. Prices of mutton, fresh milk, yogurt, and ghee also increased in 2025.

On the other hand, some food items became cheaper. Tomato prices dropped by 74.92 percent. Potato prices fell by 49.79 percent. Garlic prices decreased by 38.17 percent. Chickpea lentils became cheaper by 29.66 percent. Onion prices dropped by 29.23 percent. Tea leaf prices declined by 17.79 percent.

Mash lentils became cheaper by 13.14 percent, while masoor lentils fell by 6.62 percent. Electricity charges also decreased by 6.87 percent during the year.

These figures clearly show how food prices increase in Pakistan affected daily essentials, even as relief came from lower prices of some vegetables and utilities.
