Electricity Base Tariff Reduction Plan Submitted to NEPRA

Electricity base tariff reduction moves forward as the government submits a formal request to the power regulator.

The government decides to reduce the base electricity tariff and change the fixed charges system. Power Division files an official petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) after federal cabinet approval.

Sources say NEPRA will hear the case on February 10. The petition proposes cheaper electricity for domestic users who consume between 301 and over 700 units per month.

The government also proposes fixed charges for households that use up to 300 units of electricity per month. Plan applies these fixed charges to both protected and non-protected consumers.

The proposal suggests a fixed charge of Rs200 for protected consumers who use up to 100 units monthly.

Officials say the changes aim to adjust the billing structure and manage the power sector more effectively. The electricity base tariff reduction plan now awaits NEPRA’s review and decision.
