Cooling Process of Gul Plaza Fire May Take Four Days

The Cooling Process of Gul Plaza Fire may take three to four days, according to the Chief Fire Officer.

Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said a massive fire broke out at Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road. Firefighting and rescue operations are still in progress.

He said the shopping plaza has more than 2,000 shops. The fire department received the alert at 10:27 pm. Fire engines moved within two minutes. Fourteen fire trucks, three snorkels, and two water bowsers reached the site from across Karachi.

Humayun Khan said firefighters had brought the fire largely under control. Later, a portion of the building suddenly collapsed. One firefighter got trapped under the rubble during the operation.

He said the incident is severe and needs time to manage fully. The plaza spreads over nearly two and a quarter acres. A firefighter entered the building to rescue people and lost his life while performing his duty.

The Chief Fire Officer said officials declared it a third-degree fire after reviewing its intensity. Rescue teams are trying to recover the trapped firefighter. Fire crews monitored the site throughout the night. Many people left the area, but fire brigade teams remain present.

He added that teams are now focusing on cooling the remaining flames. Authorities will conduct a full audit after extinguishing the fire. All details will emerge once the Cooling Process of Gul Plaza Fire is complete.
