China AI Chip Machine Challenges Western Semiconductor Power

The Chinese machine works at an experimental level. It has not produced usable chips yet. The government aims to achieve working chips by 2028. Experts believe this goal may shift to 2030.
This project reflects China’s six-year plan to become self-sufficient in semiconductors. President Xi Jinping has listed this goal as a top priority. Authorities kept the Shenzhen project secret to avoid outside attention.

Several former ASML engineers joined the project quietly. They used fake names and ID cards to protect the project’s secrecy.
