People remember his role in shaping the idea of a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent. He raised the slogan of freedom through his words, actions, legal work, and writing. He stayed active on every platform for this cause.
Chaudhry Rahmat Ali was born on 16 November 1897 in Hoshiarpur district, East Punjab. In 1915, during a Bazm-e-Shibli meeting, he first proposed turning the northern regions of India into a separate Muslim state.

In 1918, he completed his BA from Islamia College Lahore. He then joined the newspaper Kashmir Gazette as an assistant editor. In 1928, he started working as a lecturer at Aitchison College. After some time, he moved to England and earned higher degrees in politics and law from Cambridge University.
On 28 January 1933, during the Round Table Conference, he published his famous pamphlet “Now or Never.” In this booklet, he clearly presented the idea of a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent.
Many historians say Muslims in India first became familiar with the word “Pakistan” on that day. The pamphlet gained wide attention in Britain and India. Later, on 14 August 1947, Muslims of the subcontinent achieved their dream of an independent country.
Chaudhry Rahmat Ali died on 3 February 1951 due to pneumonia. He rests in Cambridge, England. The nation marks Chaudhry Rahmat Ali 75th death anniversary today to remember his vision and historic contribution.
