Insiders claim many influencers have “rate cards.” Producers also buy a large number of tickets themselves to show higher earnings in the first days.

A cinema owner in Jaipur, Sudhir Kasliwal, said online bookings show hundreds of seats, but the hall remains half empty. This gives the public a wrong impression.

Recent controversies include Akshay Kumar’s movie Sky Force. Reports say its 6 million dollar earnings were shown as 9 million dollars. The 2025 release Thumma also faced questions about fake numbers.

Film experts warn that fake earnings and paid reviews destroy audience trust. They also increase star fees and reduce chances for new talent.

To control this, streaming platforms now ask for audited box office reports before buying movies.

Despite backlash, experts believe this trend will not end soon. Wadhwa said the problem will continue as long as producers and studios keep “buying” tickets.
