Bangladesh Newly Elected Members of Parliament Take Oath
Bangladesh newly elected members of parliament took oath today after the recent general elections.
The Chief Election Commissioner administered the oath to the winning candidates. The ceremony marked the formal start of the new parliamentary term.
The general elections took place on 12 February 2026. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won 209 seats. It emerged as the largest political party in the parliament.
Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and its allies secured 77 seats. They stood as the second-largest bloc in the new assembly.

Among those who took oath was Tarique Rahman. He is widely expected to become the next Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, also took oath as a member of parliament.
A Pakistani delegation is also present in Bangladesh. Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal is leading the delegation. The team will attend the expected prime minister’s oath-taking ceremony.
The oath-taking ceremony officially activates the new legislature. With this step, Bangladesh newly elected members of parliament have formally begun their parliamentary responsibilities.
