Army Chief Appointed as Chief of Defence Forces after the 27th Amendment. The National Assembly approved the Army Act 2025 following the constitutional change.
The new Army Act says that a new notification will appoint the Army Chief as the Chief of Defence Forces. The five-year term will also start again after this appointment.

The Chief of Defence Forces will restructure and merge all departments of the armed forces. The role now carries full authority over key military functions.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that the Army Chief will now also serve as the Chief of Defence Forces for a five-year term. The Prime Minister will make this appointment, and the term will begin on the official date of posting.
He added that the law clearly defines the position as a five-year appointment. The role of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee has been removed under the new amendment.
