AI Collar for Stroke Patients Restores Natural Speech

AI collar for stroke patients brings new hope as scientists develop a wearable device that helps stroke survivors speak again in their own voice.

Scientists at the University of Cambridge have created a smart wearable collar that uses artificial intelligence to help stroke patients regain speech. The device allows patients to communicate in a more natural and clear way.

The AI device is called ReVoice. It reads weak speech signals and emotional cues from the wearer. It then converts broken and unclear words into understandable and natural-sounding speech.

As a result, patients can talk more easily in daily conversations. The collar supports real-time communication and improves confidence.

Experts say this AI collar is a major improvement over current assistive speech technologies. Many older solutions fail to work well or require risky brain implants.

Professor Luigi Occhipinti from the University of Cambridge explained that stroke patients can often repeat practiced phrases. However, they struggle with natural, everyday conversations.

He added that most patients slowly regain some or all of their speaking ability over time. Because of this, invasive brain implants are not always necessary.

The professor stressed the need for a solution that is simple, portable, and easy to use. He said the AI collar for stroke patients is an important step toward more natural and accessible speech recovery technology.
