Abu Ubaida Hamas Spokesperson: Who He Was and Real Name

Abu Ubaida Hamas spokesperson was a key media figure of Hamas’ military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades. Hamas confirmed his martyrdom on Sunday.


Al-Qassam Brigades announced the death of its spokesperson and media head, Hudhaifa al-Kahlout. People knew him widely by the name Abu Ubaida. The group also introduced a new spokesperson, who will continue using the same name.


Who was Abu Ubaida?


Hudhaifa Sameer Abdullah al-Kahlout, known as Abu Ubaida, was born in 1984 in Saudi Arabia. His family had migrated there earlier. His roots traced back to the village of Najaliya near Ashkelon in فلسطين. Zionist militias destroyed the village in 1948.

He later moved with his family to the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. He studied Sharia and Islamic studies at the Islamic University of Gaza. He had strong speaking skills and delivered messages clearly.


Role in the Resistance


Abu Ubaida explained battlefield situations and military operations. He also analyzed local and international developments. His strong media presence made him a key target for Israel.


He joined Hamas during the Second Intifada in 2000. He first appeared publicly in 2004 during clashes in northern Gaza. From that point, he became the main voice of the resistance.


During later wars, he announced major operations and captures of Israeli soldiers. For two decades, he challenged Israeli narratives and highlighted alleged war crimes.


During Operation Al-Aqsa Flood


On October 7, 2023, Abu Ubaida issued statements in the early hours of the operation. He announced military and intelligence setbacks faced by Israel. He also spoke about control over military bases and settlements.


In his final speeches, he urged action against Israeli crimes. He called the struggle a fight for defense, sacrifice, and freedom.


The death of Abu Ubaida Hamas spokesperson marks the end of a major media chapter in the Palestinian resistance.
